ACTING TRAINING & COACHING

 

Garth is a passionate, experienced, respected and sought after acting coach and trainer. Celebrating his 14th year as a teacher in 2025 he has recently been  nominated for “Trainer of the Year” NIDA: (Aus VET Training Awards).

 

A NIDA acting graduate with 29 years of experience as an actor in the stage and screen industry, (including credits such as Twelfth Night for Bell Shakespeare, Orlando for Sydney Theatre Company, Photograph 51 for The Ensemble Theatre and the TV series In Our Blood ABC), Garth draws directly from his experiences in the industry to ensure his teaching practice is relevant, precise, fresh, exciting and rigorous.  

 

He is also a specialist in heightened language and Shakespeare, and has spent time at RADA in London honing his skills in classical performance.

 

He has trained thousands of actors across Australia for numerous high profile centres such as NIDA, Sydney Actors School , Bell Shakespeare and more. Garth is also a qualified VET TRAINER & ASSESSOR with his Certificate 4 in Training & Assessment.

One-to-one acting classes are an essential part of the actors training; they allow room and space for intensive, targeted and specialised rehearsal and coaching, tailored to suit your needs and experience level.

 

We work out what you might need and work in a robust, professional, challenging yet caring and kind fashion. I believe in building confidence; in making you autonomous and powerful as a performer and empowering you to take charge of your career; to own your own talent.

Each private session is uniquely designed specifically for each actor.

Sessions typically cover elements of the following:

 

  • Preparation for Acting School Auditions

  • Industry Audition Preparation

  • Acting Techniques (influenced by Stanislavsky, Meisner, Mamet, Adler, Hagen and more)

  • Text Analysis and script investigation; beginners to advanced

  • Shakespeare & heightened language

  • Stagecraft; Concepts and Practice 

  • Acting for Screen: Film and TV technique

  • Impulse, spontaneity and creative freedom

  • Improvisation: techniques, skills and practice

  • Voice: The body to the breath to the spoken word

  • Movement: Physical awareness, presence and storytelling for the stage

  • Career and industry advice & guidance

  • Strategies and practices to deal with nerves and performance anxiety

  • “The Actors Wellbeing”: Negotiating and navigating the emotional & psychological challenges of being an actor
